My # 12 Blog Post is dedicated to the photographers because without them, this blog would not be nearly as pretty to look at. The wonderful photographers who capture such amazing moments, preserved in time for us all to marvel at (me in particular) time and time again. I hope you soon-to-be's can take some inspiration from what these photographers have captured here at the Bald Head Island Club and can create some of your own beautiful memoreies here as well!

Before weddings, I planned conventions, trade shows and workshops for wedding & portrait photographers. It was a blast (and a ton of work) but what I really loved about it was discovering my love for photography. And so today's post, #12, features my all time favorite images from weddings held here at the BHI Club and the photographers who captured them!

Anyone who knows me well, knows how much I love sweets. I love all kinds of sweets, from cakes and pies to Ice Cream (Oh Ice Cream...). I love cookies (uhm, who doesn't!), i love cupcakes and brownies and truffles and pastries and peanut M&M's! Seriously, there isn't much I'll say no to when it comes to sweets. And since this is my week of "vendor love," I just wanted to send out one big THANK YOU to the Wilmington bakeries who absolutely make my day, every day of wedding season!

To put on a really stellar wedding, you need to hire stellar vendors who are experienced at making a wedding look, appear and feel like the most perfect day you can possibly imagine. This is the most important day of your life, so why would you even want to bother with all the details when your day finally arrives? So that's why my #10 favorite thing about a Bald Head Island Club wedding is our Stellar Vendors who do so much for their brides & grooms - beyond what the couple may even realize!

Today I had a lovely meeting with one of Wilmington's Premiere Wedding Planners & Designers, Courtney Arnold from A Stellar Event. I am so excited about working with her on some future Bald Head Island Club Weddings and other events. Courtney has over 11 years experience in the wedding & event planning industry and on top of that, is just a wonderful person. She truly takes care of every-single-detail when it comes to your wedding day.

#9 - top 29 Favorite things about a BHI Club Wedding!

One of the greatest things about a BHI Club wedding is finding inspiration for your wedding in previous weddings held here at the club. Which is why I try to post as many images from past weddings and events as possible on our blog, Facebook page and website. But what's even better, is drawing inspiration for your wedding from an inspiration shoot! Which is my #9 reason for having your wedding at the Bald Head Island Club! Inspiration Shoots!

A few months ago, I got a call from one of my favorite local photographers, Theo Milo, with an idea for an inspriatation shoot at the BHI Club. He teamed up with one of our local wedding planning teams, Courtney & Katie from Kickstand Events and together they produced one knock-you-off-your-rocker inspriation shoot and I am so excited to be able to share some of the pictures with you all today.

The model for this shoot was one of those natural beauties (similar to the BHI Club) and didn't need much to show off her gorgeous look. But one of my favorite hair & make-up ladies, Hannah, came out to give her hair that gorgeous wave you'll see in the images below and those subtle splashes of color to make her features really striking.

Sometimes using props that you wouldn't necessarily think of for a shoot (like these tomatoes) really adds a little something. A pop of color, for sure, but it also gives the scene a somewhat casual, sunday afternoon kind of feel. The contrast between that and the luxurious purple linens and gorgeous floral displays is stunning. I really love this look.

The girls at Kickstand did a few different bouquets for the shoot and I loved them all. Such a wide range of colors used in this that I maybe never would have conceived of on my own. But they really pulled it all together.

This girl is a heart-breaker - you can tell. And Theo captured her absolutely flawlessly.

#8 - Top 29 Favorite things about a Bald Head Island Club Wedding!

It's no secret that I have a crush on the BHI Club's Ocean Terrace Tent. But wouldn't you, if you had to walk past this beauty every day??

So i thought it only appropriate that I dedicate at least one posting, #8 in fact, to the voluptuious vixen of Bald Head Island, the Ocean Terrace Tent!

I love the fact that you can dress it up or just let it be. It's a natural beauty.

I love how it looks when the wind is slightly blowing through the terrace. It rises and falls, ever so slightly.

I love it for ceremonies, cocktail hours and receptions. It's a jack of all trades.

I love it with chandelieres and without. Either way, it's a star.

I especially love when the florists come through and deck out the chandeliers with flowers. This beauty was put together by Mrs. Kim Fisher. Gorgeous as always.

And then again, you can't go wrong with a stunning crystal chandelier agaisnt the background of the white lining.

I love. How they look. Underneath the tents enveloping slopes.

I love first dances underneath the tent...

But I really love the last dances, underneath the tent!

I love a good toast to the newlyweds underneath the tent...

...almost as much as I love first kisses, underneath the tent!

No matter how you slice it, the Ocean Terrace Tent at the BHI Club is a true gem.

This one is my all-time favorite pic of the tent... she's so photogenic, don't you think?!?

#6 on my list of top 29 Favorite things about a Bald Head Island Club Wedding is not really #6. It should definitely be near number 1. But for the sake of filling you all in, I'm posting it today!

#6 on my Top 29 list is THE BHI CLUB GOLF COURSE! If you are a golfer, or any of your wedding guests are golfers, than the BHI Club's championship golf course is one you'll definitely want to check out. In fact, just this past month we were notified by Links Magazine that we had placed in the top 5 of all golf course rennovations for 2011!

The BHI Club golf course finished rennovation in 2011 and was exceptionally remasterd by world-renowned architect, Tim Cate. The original design for the course was done by archtiect George Cobb in 1974 but over the years, it needed a little face lift. And that's exactly what Tim Cate did for the course. And after a few nips and tucks, the course is once again one of North Carolina's true gems.

So what's in it for you? Well I'm glad you asked! The Bald Head Island Club offers our wedding groups a fantastic discount on golfing. So bring your groomsmen, bring your dad's and your uncles. Bring the ladies too! The view simply can not be beat and etiher can the discounted price.

Reason #5 - Top 29 Favorite things about a Bald Head Island Club Wedding

Unfortunately yesterday slipped by me and I ran out of time to post my reason #5 for February's 29 Favorite things about a Bald Head Island Club Wedding... but that just means that today I'm posting 2!

First on the list, our #5 reason to get married on Bald Head Island is our shining star, our historical figure, our light in the darkness, Old Baldy. The Old Baldy Lighthouse was commissioned in the year 1817, nearly 200 years ago, to light the mouth of the Cape Fear river. Thousands of visitors come to Old Baldy each year to climb the steps to the lookout tower and take in the majestic beauty of Bald Head Island and the surrouning area.

Old Baldy is also the site where many couples chose to utter those two precious words to their future husband or wife... those two words you've spent months waiting to say... two words that once uttered, you are forever changed from. I Do.

I would say about a third of all our weddings will opt for the Old Baldy Lighthouse as their ceremony locale and it doesn't take a genius to see why. Not only does Old Baldy provide for some beautiful images, but the giant Oak Tree in front of it, with the romantic spanish moss hanging from its many branches provides quite the backdrop for any lucky couple's big day.

And even if you don't choose Old Baldy as your ceremony location, many couples will swing by with their photographer and have a couple images taken with Old Baldy in the background or the foreground.

This is one of my favorites....

Adding a few lanterns from the branches of the old Oak Tree in front of Old Baldy gives it that extra little touch of something. And when the sun is just beginning to go down and a little candle light starts to flicker, you won't believe you are actually here. It's one of those moments you tell yourself "remember this... remember this moment, right now."

The lawn in front of the old Oak tree is large enough to hold a ceremony of 300+. But I've also seen groups as small as 30 have their ceremony out here. It's so versatile, you can use the space however you like.

And then afterwards, the Bald Head Island Club is just a 5 minute golf cart ride away. Let your guests experience the oldest lighthouse in N.C. and then bring them to the club to experience the finest in cuisine, the most superior level of service and of course, the gorgeous view from our Ocean Terrace. Oh... and I'm here too :)

Reason #4 - Top 29 Favorite things about a Bald Head Island Club Wedding!

Reason #4 is......

The Get-Away Car(t) of course! Where else will you spot the newlyweds escaping their reception in a decked out Rolls Royce Golf Cart but Bald Head Island.

There are actually two Rolls Royce golf carts on the island available for couples to rent on their big day. You just have to know where to find them... fortunately, I do! I also happen to know where you can rent a Hummer Golf Cart. But that's just between you and me ;)

But even without the Rolls Royce or Hummer carts, just your regular old golf cart can be decked out and blinged up.

Or put a handfull of gorgeous ladies in it and you got yourself a whole lotta pretty!

Let your photographer or Best Man escort you around the island... there's no other view like this one.

Park it at the front entrance to the BHI Club...

...and it will be waiting for you when you're ready to go.

Signs on the back of the carts are very popular. "Just Married," "Hitched" and "Happily Every After" is a great way to say wave goodbye to your onlooking guests. I don't have a picture of it unfortunately, but one of my brides last year who was honeymooning in Italy, had a sign made for their golf cart that read "Just Married" in Italian. Loved it.

Wreath's make a very nice decor element for the get-away cart! I love this one... it's very wintery.

And make sure you have a fabulous get-away outfit to escape in too! Like this one... adorable!

Reason #3 - Top 29 Favorite things about a Bald Head Island Club Wedding

The Food! This may very well be my favorite, favorite, favorite aspect of a BHI Club wedding. Maybe. There are just so many reasons - why must a girl choose?

Warning... I am about to make you all, very, very, VERY hungry! Just the mere mention of some of these delicious concoctions makes my stomach growl. And I don't mean one of those barely audible whimpers of hunger. I mean an intense growl like I've just woken from long-term hibernation and have an insatiable appetite that only the likes of the BHI Club can satisfy. TMI?

Let me start off by saying that our chef is insane. Insanely talented that is! Every hors d'oeuvres, every entree dish, every yum yum dessert is better than the last. Here's just a sampling of some of our offerings:

Mashed Potato Martini Bar for the Heavy Hors D'oeuvres Receptions

This station comes with chipotle pork, braised chicken in red wine, chopped scallions, shredded cheese, tomatoes, sour cream and chopped bacon. Add toppings as desired!

We also offer a delicious (like nothing you've ever tried before) Shrimp & Grits Station. But, due to forces beyond my control, I am unable to share any images of our shrimp & Grits here today. I simply can not be held liable for the kind of hunger growls that will ensue upon viewing said Shrimp & Grits. I apologize for even mentioning it.

Moving right along...

One of our most popular hors d'oeuvres is the Seared Baby Lamb Chops with Mint Demi Glace. I once watched a herd of groomsmen (ok, there were 5 of them) polish off an entire plate of these things in about point 5 seconds while the server stood holding an empty plate, eyes wide in amazement.

And although you won't find this item on our menus, we often get a request for Applewood Smoked Bacon Wrapped Shrimp and voila, there you have it! And they are good... very good.

In the summer time, a Chilled Seafood Station is very popular. Heck, any time of year a chilled seafood station is quite popular. Check out those monster Crab Legs!

This was for a tasting I had with a soon to be bride and her family. Seared Baby Lamb Chops, Crabmeat Salad in Phyllo Cups and our LEGEN....wait for it...DARY Corn & Cilantro Fritters with a Spicy Aioli Dipping Sauce. Yum, Yum and Yum.

These guys are our Grilled Chicken with Boursin in Belgian Endive hors d'oeuvres. Always a fan favorite!

Another one of our very popular hors d'oeuvres, the Sesame Seared Tuna on Won Ton with Wakame Salad. I think these have made an appearance at 94.5% of 2011 weddings and it's looking like they're sticking around for 2012 as well.

Bite-Size Crabcakes with Whole Lump Crabmeat.

Who doesn't love crabcakes I ask???

Vegetable Spring Rolls with Thai Dipping Sauce.

No one ever says no to a BHI Club spring roll. You're asked to leave the island if you do. No joke.

Fried Oysters with a Creole Remoulade.

De-Lish.

Goat Cheese Crostini with an Apricot Preserve.

In my opinion, you can never have enough Goat Cheese.

Allright... it's almost 10:00am. I'd say it's about time for lunch, right? Who's with me?

Reason #2 - The Sunsets on Bald Head Island

One of the most amazing aspects of holding your wedding ceremony or reception on the Ocean Terrace at the Bald Head Island Club, is watching the amazing sunsets afterwards. Imagine, if you will, a beautiful spring or fall evening. There's that perfectly cool breeze whisping through the terrace - not too hard and not too soft. All of your nearest and dearest loved ones are there with you. A cocktail in hand, a delicious array of hors d'oeuvres are being passed, and just beyond you is that beautiful setting sun. Top 29 Things About a Bald Head Island Club Wedding!

The Countdown is ON!!! In honor of this lovely month of love, I thought it would be fun to count down my Top 29 Favorite things about a Bald Head Island Club Wedding. And yes, since it is Leap Year, we get 1 more bonus item on this list! And make sure you check in on day 29 - because it will surely be a doozy!

So, the real question, how do I start this list? With something romantic? Something beautiful? Something practical? Something Fun?????

Yes, let's start with something fun! I've been dying to share this video and even though it's a little hard to see what's going on in the beginning, you get the picture. This video was taken at one of our last weddings of the year in 2011. It was the October 29th wedding of Stephanie & Shane, featuring a wonderful performance by The Shakedown Band (who absolutely ROCK by the way!) But they weren't the only performers to take center stage that night. This wedding reception came equipped with its very own FLASH MOB!

You'll see the groom & his mother dancing in the beginning for their Mother/Son dance and then the music stops suddenly and the beginnings of a flash mob ensues, led by none other than the groom's mother. Love it!
So here you have it! Day 1 of my Top 29 Favorite Things about a Bald Head Island Club Wedding is.... drum roll please.... FLASH MOBS!

Griffin & JT - a wedding at the Bald Head Island Club!

It was almost 14 months ago to the day when Griffin first contacted me about having her wedding at the Bald Head Island Club. She sent me an inquiry, I responded. We had a back and forth relationship via email for abour 24 hours before she booked her flight from NYC and made arrangements to meet with me on Bald Head. There was something about her that I loved from the get go. Something about her friendly demeanor, her excitement about her upcoming wedding and her calming, easy-going attitude. I remember offerinig to pick her up at the airport and bring her over to Bald Head - that's not something I do often (or ever really), but I just rmemeber feeling like we were old friends from the minute we first talked.

When she arrived at the club, I sensed it even more. We hit that easy stride that you feel with only a rare few people in your life. They're the kind of friends you meet for coffee perhaps months since the last time you saw or spoke to one another, and yet you pick right back up where you left off. I was so excitied for Griffin & JT's wedding, from that first day she contacted me to the day it finally arrived this past October. It was everything she dreamed it would be and everything i hoped her day would be. It was... perfect.

It was October 15th, one of those perfect days on the island in the fall when it's no longer humid, still nowhere near cold, but somewhere right in the middle of a beautiful, warm fall day. Griffin & JT were married on the grounds of Old Baldy Lighthouse on Bald Head Island amongst nearly 200 of their friends and family members. The light was absolutely amazing and Rachel Barker of Millie Holloman Photography captured so many stunning moments, views and emotions from their wedding to a T! Here's a few:

Their reception followed at the BHI Club with florals and decor design by the always amazing Kim Fisher Designs. I loved the dark cranberry colors with the taupes of the bridesmaid dresses and the creams in the bouquets & linens. And the mahoganny chiavari chairs added that perfect complimentary touch of color that looked great with the dark reds in the centerpieces.

And hello.... is this not the most gorgeous wedding cake you've ever seen in your life? Bryan & David with Flower & Flour put their blood, sweat and tears into every single decadent dessert they create. They really try to customize and personalize the dessert choice specific to each bride or each couple. But this one really takes the cake for me. They even included a broach from the bride's gown as part of the design and it was truly spectacular. I wish their photographer Rachel could have captured a picture of Griffin & JT's guests, staring in amazement at this glorious cake. It was quite the site to see.

Oh, and ps, the macaroons and other treats were phenomenal too.

Griffin & JT arrived to their reception and danced their "first dance" to Tuepelo Honey by Van Morrison - which just may be one of my favorite "first dance" choices ever.

And PS... loved these gorgeous chandeliers from Steve Peterson of High Performance Lighting. They completely set the mood for a romantic and celebratory evening.

The real fun came when the Liquid Pleasure band took the stage who are just absolutely phenomenal - the complete entertainer. They had this wedding litterally dancing all night long - they even included a costume change halfway through. I honestly cannot recommend this band enough.

And when the end of the night came, and Griffin & JT drove off in their decked out golf cart, I know they both were absolutely thrilled with how it all came together. There was a glow about the two of them the entire night. She was blissfully happy and radiant to say the least and he was in awe - of Griffin mostly, but also of everything they'd just done and all the people who surrounded them on this amazing day. I am so happy to share with you all, the wedding of Griffin & JT!

I Thank My Lucky Stars for Kelly & Stephen!

As the end of 2011 quickly draws nearer, I find myself looking back on all the amazing couples I've had the opportunity, pleasure and distinct honor to work with this past year. It was a busy wedding season for the Bald Head Island Club, but by the close of November, we were able to look back on all our wonderful couples, our tremendously memorable weddings, our superb staff and our beautiful island location with a great sense of pride, fulfillment and pleasure. And although I love all my couples, all my weddings and all my staff equally, i have to admit that the wedding of Kelly & Stephen this past August is one I will never, ever, ever forget. And it's only partially due to their uninvited guest... Hurricane Irene.

I could tell you the long, drawn out tale of how Hurricane Irene threatened to turn Kelly & Steve's wedding upside down, but that's not what I remember and that's not what Kelly & Steve and their wonderful family and friends took away from their wedding. So instead, I want to tell you about two of the most gracious, loving, wonderful people I know. Who happened to find each other in this great big world of ours and who decided to say I do on this wonderful little island called Bald Head.

Because Irene seemed dead set on crashing their wedding, Kelly & Steve decided to throw a wrench in her plans. On Thursday morning, two days prior to their scheduled date to marry, Kelly & Steve woke up to a beautiful sunrise and said to each other, "let's get married." Although some guests were unable to get to North Carolina due to flight cancelations, the majority of their guests were already on the island or at least in route to getting to the island. And it was a gorgeous day for a wedding - not a gust of foul weather in site.

Kelly & Steve were content with their decision because after all the planning and all the schedules, at the end of the day these two just really wanted to be married... to be able to celebrate that union with family and friends... and to know that no matter what life throws at them, they'll conquer it together. And as luck would have it, they had chosen some of the best vendors in the industry who were all able to change their schedules and arrive for the wedding two days early.

Jennifer and her team at Salt Harbor Designs worked an absolute miracle, having all the flowers and decor ready to go for this wedding two days earlier than originally planned. And it was actually one of my favorite looks I've ever seen here at the club! Together with Kelly's vision, Salt Harbor created a light green and cream, travel themed reception.

Table names and menu cards featured maps to some of Kelly & Steve's favorite vacation destinations such as London, Aruba, Costa Rica and Aspen. Old Baldy vintage black and white post cards were used in place of a guest book and vintage suitcases decorated the guests tables. I absolutely loved it.

Kelly & Steve's bridal party looked amazing, but beyond that, they were amazing. They were there to help the couple accomplish every last little detail to make sure their wedding day was a success.

and these two little guys... absolutely adorable. I could not take my eyes off of them. Look at those cheeks!

and who could forget this little beauty. I remember these three having hallway races while the adults danced the night away. They were having their own version of fun and it was such joy to watch.

Kelly & Steve had a very powerful effect on me, our staff and the rest of their vendors that day. These two made us remember, that truly, Love is all you need.

And as long as you have love, might as well have some delicious food & drinks...

"The Knot Best of Weddings Pick" for 2012! Bald Head Island Club!

The Bald Head Island Club was thrilled to recieve word this week that we'd been selected as The Knot's "Best of Weddings" Venue for the state of North Carolina for 2012! The official list will be published in early January but I am just too excited to keep this to myself!

We have such an amazing and talented team of professionals here at the Bald Head Island Club. It has been an absolute honor for me, having the opportunity to work with each and every one of them, through every wedding, rehearsal dinner, welcome party, bridesmaid luncheon or brunch we've hosted over the last year. But I would be remiss if I didn't mention all the wonderful women - those beautiful brides - I've had the opportunity to work with over the last year as well. Because they are the real reason why we received this amazing award!

I love ALL our couples who have married at the Bald Head Island Club and honestly, they're like my children... i can't pick a favorite. DIY Wedding at the Bald Head Island Club, NC - Steve & Laura

Over the course of a wedding season, the Bald Head Island Club will be transformed in countless ways. We are fortunate to be able to work with some of the top wedding vendors in the state, perhaps the country, so it's always a joy for me to see what each couple has decided will represent their relationship, their interests and their style for their wedidng day.

Salt Harbor Designs and Kim Fisher Designs, out of Wilmington, NC, both frequent Bald Head Island and it's always a sight to see. It's always different, but always, ALWAYS beautiful. Every once in a while, I'll have a couple or a family who decide to handle all of the flowers, decor and design decision themselves. And I have to tell you, I get a little nervous when someone says they're going to have a home-made wedding. I don't know why, I guess just because everytime I try to get creative, somehow I wind up with a room full of popsicle sticks and way, way, way too much glue.

But when Laura & Steve's families decided to take on the task of designing the couple's dream wedding, they really, truly took it on. They left no stone unturned, no table untouched, no bouquet lacking anything. Of course they did have a little lighting help from my dear friend Steve Peterson of High Performance Lighting. Steve is THE go-to guy in Wilmington for specialty lighting.

Laura & Steve were married on the beach at Bald Head Island in early October and then made their way to the club for their reception on our Ocean Terrace.

One of my favortie moments of the day was when Laura turned to me after finally arriving and sitting down with her new husband and said "we need to go dance." So dance they did, alone on our back terrace. Away from the hustle and bustle of the wedding, away from their family and friends. It was just him and her. Mr. & Mrs. Husband and Wife.

Laura & Steve's families took care of all the wedding planning and design, but they did have some wonderful vendors in tow when it came to entertainment, photography and their beautiful, beautiful cake! Flower & Flour provided this stunning wedding cake along with some tasty, tasty miniature treats. Flower & Flour cakes are always so beautiful... but it's almost painful when it comes time to cut into them. Sure I know they are going to be deliciously delectable, but once you cut, there is no going back! But it's always worth it once you take that first bite! Yum!

For entertainment, the couple hired Jane Tierney the violinist, to perform during the ceremony and cocktail hour and the Rick Ottaway band to get their family & friends dancing for the remainder of the reception. Both Jane and the Rick Ottaway band were great to work with and the families seemed to enjoy them immensely.

Last but not least, their brilliant photographer, Justin Cook, is the man to thank for capturing their entire day like a true professional. There were so many great moments that I know Laura & Steve are beyond thankful he caught them all. You can see more of his work here.

What is my favorite part of the wedding day?

Oh, well I'm glad you asked!

As you can imagine, I've seen my fair share of weddings. And to be honest, there are a hundred things I love about a wedding... especially when it's between two people who really, truly, madly, deeply, inexplicably - love each other.

I love the things that everyone loves - the first time the groom sees his bride, the exhange of vows and first kiss, the nervous excitement on each of their faces just before the ceremony is to begin. But the thing that always gets me, the thing that brings me to tears - ALWAYS - is the first dance. It's true... I'm a sucker for a love song. But the way he looks at his wife, and the way she looks back at her husband, there's something so perfectly romantic and lovely about the first dance.

Of course it helps to pick out a really good song, one you can move to together, one that everyone can sing along or sway to, one that expresses how you're feeling, right at that moment. The thing that amazes me, the first dance song selection seems to be the hardest decision for couples to make. It's the last bit of information they send to me - so that I can make sure their DJ or band has that song on their playlist and scheduled for the right time. For some reason, in the weeks leading up to the wedding, this is the detail that eludes me and the soon to be newlyweds.

A Sunny, September Wedding at the BHI Club - Kate & Jeremy!

September was a busy month at the Bald Head Island Club, but no week compared to the week of September 12th through the 18th. For starters, it began with my birthday! That's right, Monday September 12th I turned the ripe old age of 24... ok 27. Er... 29? Well, let's just say I am now a little bit older but much, much wiser.

The rest of the week consisted of a surprise birthday party on Thursday, a Croquet & BBQ themed rehearsal dinner as well on Thursday, a Welcome Party on Friday, a wedding on Saturday and another wedding on Sunday. It was a long week but I can't think of a better way to have ended it all, than with the picturesque wedding of Kate & Jeremy.

This was one of the more formal wedding receptions we've hosted here at the Bald Head Island Club. A lot of weddings on the island tend to have a beachy theme and sometimes more casual atmoshphere with the guys typically wearing tan suits and on occassion, flip flops. But Kate & Jeremy went all out with black tuxedos on the groom and groomsmen and a very royal, princess look for the bride. Who, by the way, could not be any sweeter if she really was made from sugar and spice.

Kate was the very definition of elegant, always cool, calm and appreciative, from day one. I immediately fell in love with her, and for many, many, many reasons, I can completely understand why Jeremy was so head over heels in love with her too. Together they will accomplish so many things and their beautifully planned wedding was just the beginning.

Kate & Jeremy selected an amazing list of vendors to help pull off their dream day - from the phenomenal Anne McGowan, photographer extraordinaire, the always lovely Roxanne from Island Florals, the keep-you-on-your-toes-even-when-it-hurts magnificent Craig Woolard Band and lastly, a close friend who designed her very first wedding cake just for Kate & Jeremy. There were oohs and ahhs all night coming from the newlyweds guests and I couldn't agree more.

Alyson & Michael, A Beautiful September Wedding, At BHI!

This past September, the Bald Head Island Club had the honor of hosting a rehearsal dinner, ceremony and wedding reception for a couple that truly bring new meaning to the word, beautiful.

Now, everyone always talks about the bride on her wedding day, how beautiful she is, the "glow" that surrounds her, how calm or peaceful or content she looks. But I always look to the groom. Because the look on the groom's face really lets you in on their little secrets. Their behind the scenes moments, their intimate embraces, their memories built and ideas for their future.

When the groom first sees his bride, that's a moment worth taking notice of. And when he vocalizes his vows, that's a time to pay attention. But also, when it's all said and done, when the ceremony is over and the reception is in full gear, the way he looks at her for the rest of the evening and for the rest of their lives, that's what really pulls at my heart strings. That's when you really see the glow. Because he knows, he's looking at the woman who agreed to spend the rest of her life with him, the woman who became, his wife...

Michael Strickland was one of the most sincere, kind and awesomly in love grooms I've ever had the pleasure to work with. He just really wanted to marry Alyson and make her happy, for the rest of her life. He was a catch, my friends, and I can tell you without a moment's hesitation, Alyson agreed.

But I can't talk about the Strickland's without talking about Alyson - she is one half of this beautiful couple and I'm going to let something slip here that I probably shouldn't. On the day of their wedding, when Alyson arrived with her bridesmaids in tow, I was quite litterally, blown away. And speechless.

She was effervescent. She was flawless. She was an angel in Vera Wang. But above all of this, she is sweet, she is inteligent, she is kind. She is a woman who will conquer any obstacle in front of her and surprise the world with what she is capable of. She is someone you are better off for knowing, and that is why Michael was aglow the day he married Alyson.

It was such a pleasure working with Michael & Alyson and their dear families to plan this wedding with them. Everything about the day turned out magically, and a lot of that is due to the amazing vendors they selected to help them create their vision. Salt Harbor always blows my mind with their original designs and they did not dissapoint this time.

The couple's photographer, Courtney Aliah, captured all of it with a true artist's eye. And their DJ Jay Tatum of Active Entertainment kept their friends and family dancing. All. Night. Long.

I can't say enough good things about this couple, this wedding, this experience. Except, congratulations! xoxo

Bald Head Island Club Wedding - Featured on Style Me Pretty!

It's been a busy fall here on Bald Head Island, in September alone we had 12 wedding related events! And even though we're right smack in the middle of a busy, event-filled October, I myself seem to be drifting back to May. Why you ask? Well, it could have something to do with the recently featured wedding of Anna & Chris on Style Me Pretty this past week! I love, love, loved this couple and i love, love, loved how amazing their pics turned out! Kellie Kano Photography is one of a kind i tell ya.

Georgiana & Thad Wester - Featured on Style Me Pretty!

I just looked at my email account from last August - 2010. It was almost one year ago to the day, that I first heard from Georgiana. She was recently engaged and having worked at the Bald Head Island Club a couple summers prior, she knew instantly that the BHI Club was where she and Thad wanted to marry. She made an appointment to come see me and the rest, as they say, is history.

But this wouldn't be a very fun blog if I didn't give you all a few more details. The truth is, I've been dying to write this post. A few weeks after Georgiana & Thad were married, their immensely talented photographer Scott Piner, sent me an email with a link to their pictures. He asked that I not share them quite yet though as he had submitted them to the Style Me Pretty crew for publication. And yesterday morning, when i made my daily visit (ok, i'm lying - it's more like my hourly visit) to the Style Me Pretty blog, there the images were. Top of the page it read "Bald Head Island Wedding by Scott Piner." I think my heart litteraly skipped a beat as I scrolled through the gallery of images.

For anyone that's ever been to Bald Head Island, well you know how beautiful and magical it really is. But somehow, with the collaboration of Kim Fisher Designs, Scott Piner Photography, Cakes by Norwoods, the Bald Head Island Club, the Village Chapel and the most drop dead gorgeous bride and groom you've ever seen, this wedding was like an explosion of all things beautiful, all things romantic, all things perfection.

I had so much fun working with Georgiana on planning their dream wedding. From the menu selection and room set-up to the linens, chairs & chargers. And Kim Fisher has this remarkable way of making everything whimsical and super, super pretty. I just love her and everything she touches!

This was my first opportunity to work with Scott Piner and his wife Donna and they were an absolute joy to work with. And the images? Well, just see for yourself. Simply stunning. I would recommend them to any bride & groom looking for a wedding photographer. Or a family looking for a portrait photographer. Or a pet-owner looking for a pet photographer. Or anyone, actually, looking for anything. :)

Georgiana & Thad had so much fun at their reception. Their band, Carl Newton & The 5th Avenue Band were AWESOME with a capital A-W-E-S-O-M-E! Towards the end of the night, we had to towel off our groom - he was just having too much fun! I love a wedding that know's how to have a good time. And I absolutely loved this couple. So young, so beautiful, so absolutely head over heels in love.

Chelsea & Art and a whole "Hill" of a lot of love!

It was the middle of January, a time of year that's pretty quiet on the island, when I got a call from a bride who had just lost her wedding venue. A wedding, that was planned for just three months away on April 22, 2011. They had three months to book a new venue, rearrange their plans, alert their guests and vendors and they had never even been to Bald Head Island before. We schedueld a visit for the two of them and they booked the club immeditately.

The amazing thing about this couple though, as stressed as I know they both were, they were cool as cats when they came to visit with me. Chelsea and Art Hill were just two, very much in love individuals, who wanted to celebrate that love in front of their friends and families. The fact that the Bald Head Island Club happened to be available the day they wanted to marry, was just a bonus.

After booking the club for their reception, they decided to have a beachfront ceremony. So the morning of their wedding, we delivered 100 or so white padded chairs to the beach and they were all set to go.

That is until about 30 minutes prior to the ceremony, the rain started falling. It wasn't enough to wash away the chairs of course, but when their guests showed up at the club seeking shelter from the rain, we decided to move the ceremony to the Ocean Terrace, underneath our gorgeous white linen lined tent.

I called Chelsea to let her know of the change in ceremony locales. She was at her beachfront home, having the finishing touches put on. All she said was "Thank you."

Peaceful and calm as ever, Chelsea.

Art, who was already at the club, was also very grateful for the last minute switch. But I think Art and Chelsea are loving the dramatic skies now, after seeing the amazing images their photographer Matt McGraw captured that afternoon and evening.

In the end, Chelsea & Art had a wonderful wedding day experience and their guests had a fabulous time.I should know - i was there marveling at how much fun they were having. Of course it didn't hurt having the ever-fabulous J Tatum from Active Entertainment as the evening's entertainment. And Vince Stout on the Steel Drum was a marvelous addition.

It's creeping up on the fall wedding season (very quickly I might add) but I'm still reveling in our wonderful spring wedding season! One of my favorite couples to marry this past spring, was Eric & Cameron Gardner.

Eric & Cameron are Bald Head Island frequenters, so i was fortunate enough to spend quite a bit of time getting to know them pryor to the wedding. Cameron is as adorable as she looks in these pics and Eric is just as sweet. There were so many pics from their uber-talented photographer Ed Shenkmen that capture the newlyweds glow and utter excitement.

The bridesmaids dresses were gorge! As were the bridesmaids themselves!

This is such an awesome picture of Eric and his groomsmen fooling around before the big day. So cool.

The ceremony was held underneath the Ocean Terrace Tent. 150 of Cameron & Eric's closest friends and family members were able to join in on the celebration!

Guests enjoyed cocktail hour in our Palms Room...

and then convened to the Ocean Room for dinner!

Flowers were provided by Lyn Moser. I remember our receptionist commenting that day (who has worked here for 20 years this past spring) that these were the prettiest flowers she's ever seen at a wedding. And she's seen a lot of weddings here at Bald Head!

I received a few pics this week from Lisa Brown of Bella Rose Photography, of a March wedding we hosted here at the Bald Head Island Club. Trish & Glenn were married at the Village Chapel on March 26, 2011.

Lisa Brown and her team took the newlyweds around the island for some beachy shots before joining the rest of their guests at the Bald Head Island Club for a mexican themed fiesta buffet.

I love theses shots of Glenn & Trish exiting the club - it wasn't raining, but they need protection from the guests throwing a little orzo rice at them!

Congratulations to a beautiful couple! They were in absolute wedded bliss when they arrived at the club the night of their wedding, and I can't imagine the smile on their faces fading anytime soon.

The "I Do's" of Anna & Chris...

I've often wondered, if as parents, you truthfully don't have favorites among your children. Really? Now I am not a mother yet, so I can't say for sure. But as a wedding planner for the Bald Head Island Club, I do feel a little guilty admitting that I do in fact, have favorites. Now I love all of my brides, each in their own way and for many different reasons. But Mrs. Anna Rose... well, she stole my heart the minute I met her.

Anna was the very first bride I met with when I arrived at Bald Head almost 1 year ago to the day. She was radiant, she was kind, she was glowing, she was endearing, she was genuine. And I soon realized, she was just being Anna. To say that i was looking forward to her wedding, is definitely an understatement. I was counting down the days, but at the same time savoring it all because I knew one day May 21st, 2011 would arrive and Chris & Anna would sail off into the sunset... a sunset in Turks & Caicos I believe :)

And as I knew it would, May 21st did arrive. And it was everything Anna had dreamt it would be. It was everything I dreamt it would be. Kim Fisher provided a magical ambiance of floral delight, with light pink peonies (my favorite) and succulents galore.

The ceremony was held on the Bald Head Island Club's Ocean Terrace and what a magical setting that was.

The reception kind of took over the entire club, with the cocktail hour in the palms room, and the reception inside the Ocean Room & Ocean Terrace.

Anna & Chris had such a fun wedding, and a majority of that is due to their rocking band, The TFC Band! They were so laid back and just kept the party going. This pic below is of the bride's brother. He, as well as the rest of their guests, had a blast with TFC!

I love this pic of Anna's parents dancing. Georgia & Fred Rose are just as adorable as their daughter Anna and it was just so cute watching them dance to their special song. I had to stop what I was doing to watch, it was that dang cute.

And a stunning cake courtesy of my favorite boys over at Flower & Flour. Wow! Not only did it look gorgeous sitting there on that table, but it was delicious going down too!

Congrats again to the Newlyweds, Anna & Chris. You two will forever have a special place in my heart and I will never forget your beautiful day - thanks to the fotabulous photographing of Kellie Kano! Bald Head Island Club Wedding - Shane & Melissa

Well, it's raining on Bald Head today, (and even though we need the rain - badly) I still find myself longing for the gorgeous sunny days we typically have here on the island. So how about a beautiful spring wedding for today's blog post, to help bring a little sunshine to this unusually wet day?

A couple months ago the Bald Head Island Club hosted a lovely Sunday afternoon wedding for Shane & Melissa. It was a gorgeous May 15th wedding, without the wind, without the rain, but with a whole lot of love and support from the couple's friends and family.

Shane & Melissa were married under our gorgeous Ocean Terrace Tent and then spent some time driving around the island with their photographer, Chris Van Atta, capturing some of the island's pristine environment and unique landmarks that have become so much a part of the island experience.

Their guests enjoyed a wonderful spread of food out on our back terraces including a chilled seafood station ...

a mashed potato martini bar...

a beef tenderloin station...

and much, much more.

I love events held out on the Grille Terrace - which overlooks the golf course and the croquet courts. It has such a peaceful setting - fans blowing above, palm trees swaying in the distance and the sun casting it's lovely glow on to the greenery beyond.

And that sun certainly does a good job of keeping our entertainment warm :)

PS... DJ J. Tatum of Active Entertainment is a total rockstar. Love him!

The gorgeous flowers were provided by Wendy Wright of A Beautiful Event, and it certainly was - a beautiful event.

The bride and groom shipped the most decadent, pre-sliced chocolatey-chocolate cakes to the Bald Head Island Club from their favorite bakery and for the life of me, I can not remember the name of the bakery. I want to say Big Daddy's Bakery??? Anyway, I didn't get to try the cakes but they looked and smelled

DE-LICIOUS!

Oh, and the club's pastry chef created an assortment of delicious treats to go along with the cakes including mini cheesecakes, mini key lime tarts, and an assortment of liquor filled truffles. YUM.

Congrats to the beautiful couple. They were so laid back and just enjoyed their special day here on the island. It was a pleasure working with you both.

And thanks again, for bringing a little sunshine to my day :)

Bridal Portrait Session - Wowsers!

I recently experienced two first's since joining the Bald Head Island Club as the Event Planner last summer. My first *First* was finally getting the opportunity to work with Scott Piner of Scott Piner Photography. Scott and his wife Donna - who second shoots with him - are an absolute joy to work with and oh-so-talented (as you'll soon see, evidenced by this amazing bridal session shot on Bald Head Island!)

My second *First* was planing the wedding of a previous employee of the club, Ms. Georgiana Key. Of course these day's she's going by her married name, Mrs. Wester.

Georgiana & Thad were married at the Village Chapel on Bald Head Island on June 18th, 2011. Since her guests have already seen the beautiful, blushing bride in person, I think I can now safely reveal these gorgeous bridal portraits with you all.

Scott Piner took Georgiana all over the island, capturing her natural beauty in some of her favorite picturesque locations. Bald Head Island has so many picturesque locations though, it's a wonder they were able to get it all in, in just one afternoon!

I am just floored over some of these images. Georgiana is a knock out in person, and these images really bring her beauty to light.

And the dress? I LOVED. In person, in photographs, everywhere! This dress could do no wrong.

wow. that's it. just wow.

Engagement Pics on Bald Head Island

One of our "Oh-So-Cute" couples, getting married at the Bald Head Island Club later on this year, recently had their engagement pics taken on the island and they are just so adorable - i have to share.

Rachel Barker of Millie Holloman Photography (one of my absolute favs!) captured such a wonderful, peaceful, easy-going feeling in these shots. Of course, Bald Head Island is one of the most peaceful, easy-going places you'll ever find, but Rachel gave it that *Rachel* spark!

Time Flies when it's Wedding Season!

Wow... it's been a while since I had a moment to post any updates on the Bald Head Island Club Weddings Blog! But in a rare moment of down-time, here we go!

In no particular order - since some of our Spring weddings have yet to yield any pictures, I will be updating the blog as I receive them. And today's gorgeous showing is from our May 14th 2011 wedding, Mr. & Mrs. Austin Redwine!

This wedding was one of the most fun events we've held at the Bald Head Island Club. The couple was not only drop dead gorgeous, but so much fun and just absolutely easy going. I love the shot below, their photographer Rachel captured, of Carey's wedding day footwear. It is just so Carey!

Carey was not your typical bride - in fact, I rarely heard from her unless she just happened to be on the island and would stop in to say hello. But one of the things she and her now husband Austin did care about, was the food. So together we designed a menu that would fit both of their families tastes who traveled from Texas and all over the Carolinas to help the couple celebrate. The menu included Kobe Beef and pulled pork sliders (as Carey said, my Texas people need their beef!), a mashed potato martini bar, pasta station, corn & cilantro fritters {YUM!}, vegetable spring rolls and a tomato & basil bruschetta. Their guests did not leave hungry - that's for sure!

Carey & Austin had their ceremony in front of an old Oak tree covered with Spanish Moss in front of Old Baldy Lighthouse. The images Rachel captured are so dramatic - I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE them!

The reception was held at the Bald Head Island Club where Salt Harbor Designs played an intricate roll in making it as gorgeous as it was. I love working with Salt Harbor. They are true professionals, hard workers, creative - OH SO CREATIVE - and just always make the whole occasion simply stunning.

This image is one of my favorites - so cute.

And I can't forget to mention the desserts! Sugar Confections supplied the most wonderful spread of desserts from mini strawberry & blueberry topped cheesecakes (i think i ate like 12 of these the next day) to cookies and truffles and a GoRgEoUs wedding cake! I mean GORGEOUS. And so, so, so delicious. I seriousy can't say enough good things about the sweet treats!

The idea for the blog is absolutely genius and certainly needed. The creator, the wonderfully talented Mrs. Kim Fisher of Kim Fisher Designs, has worked with brides and grooms for years, helping to design and create not only a beautiful aesthetic for their wedding day, but also an overall look and feel that is both personal and meaningful on such an important day.

Over the years, Kim has worked with some of the most creative and resourceful designers in the industry, from bakers to photographers, from invitation caligraphers to musical entertainers. And what's more, her work can be seen throughout the entire Cape Fear region at litterally hundreds of venues, including our home away from home, the Bald Head Island Club!

Vanessa & Josh - A Traditional Pig Pickin Rehearsal Dinner!

It seems so far away right now - an October 2011 wedding - but I just could not wait to share this gorgeous engagement session! The couple is Vanessa & Josh, a NY couple with NC roots. They will be coming down to Bald Head Island for their October 2011 wedding and I have to tell you, they are just so much fun!

They'll be at the BHI Club for their rehearsal dinner and they have their hearts set on an authentic pig pickin - so that's what we're going to do - with all the traditional southern accompaniments of course. It's going to be a blast, and set out on our picturesque Grille Terrace which overlooks the pristine Bald Head Island Golf Course.

I seriously can not wait...

The Bridal Showcase - Charlotte, NC

This past weekend, my multi-talented Banquet Captain, Liza, and I, headed west to the Bridal Showcase, held at the Charlotte, NC Convention Center. The Bald Head Island Club had a booth at the show along with hundreds of other vendors across the state of North Carolina. There were tons of photographers with sample wedding albums, bakeries handing out delicious cake tastings, gorgeous floral displays, invitation designers and virtually every possible paper good you could ever need, and so much more.

We had several brides come by who looked a bit overwhelmed with all the options and possibilities. But that's what a bridal expo is for - to give you some ideas and some inspiration for your own wedding. You don't have to implement it all - just get a feel for what grabs you and then twist it and turn it until it fits your style and personality as a couple.

I wanted to personally thank each of you who came by to say hi to Liza and myself. We had a blast talking with each of you and finding out more about your upcoming weddings.

Also, I know a lot of you were asking about our booth display and how you can get that same look, so here's the details from our amazing partners:

Kim Fisher Designs - based in Wilmington (but will travel) - was responsible for the gorgeous florals and the adorable "And they lived happily ever after" sign and the individual "bride" & "groom" signs that hung from the backs of the chairs.

Party Suppliers in Wilmington, loaned us those gorgeous linens & charger plates. The green linen was a Patina Green satin. Gorgeous!

Salt Harbor Designs (also in Wilmington but will travel) helped us out with some of the unique little props throughout our booth, including the lanterns, sea-grass rug and the Bald Head Island Club sign.

These three companies are wonderful to work with and uber-talented. I would highly recommend working with any and all of them as they truly know this business.

We also had a gorgeous album on display of a wedding held at the Bald Head Island Club earlier this year. The album was loaned to us by one of my favorite photographers, Ms. Anne McGowan. She's so amazing to work with. Check her out for sure!

Yesterday afternoon, Style Me Pretty released its first ever Best of 2010 E-Magazine and I just have to say... It. Is. Gorgeous. Each of the 20 different weddings featured present a beautiful, unique, personalized event that just reaches in and tugs at your heart strings. Each of them - absolutely stunning. 137 pages of top to bottom, head to toe wedding details galore. And what's more, they also took the time to put together a buying guide for most of the featured weddings to help you in your inspiration to reality planning needs!

Brotherly Love

As a wedding coordinator for the Bald Head Island Club, you can assume I've seen my fair share of weddings. And you'd probably think I'd be immune to the emotions that can take over seeing a beautiful couple celebrating their union with all the people they hold nearest and dearest.

You would think so, but you'd be wrong - about the emotions part. At least that was the case when Alyssa & Chris arrived to the club, post wedding ceremony and ready to celebrate. Everything was all fine and dandy until Alyssa's brother/Man of Honor/Official toast-giver/Meany who made me tear up - stood up and asked everyone to raise their glasses in honor of his sister and now, brother in-law. I'm a sucker for a man who can express his feelings and he did just that. It was an amazing speech from a proud brother for his beautiful sister. He spoke of the imense pride he felt for having Alyssa as a sister and how lucky Chris and Alyssa both were for finding one another. And if I'm not mistaken, I think he had something to do with that.

In any case, it was a beautiful reception for two beautiful people, Alyssa and Chris. And PS - the rest of their family and friends - ALL AMAZING. I felt like I was at one of my family get-togethers. All of their guests were so friendly and genunie and just downright good people.

I loved this group and I am so happy that I am able to share some images from the wonderfully talented Rachel Barker of Millie Holloman Photography with you. Rachel is such a talented photographer. Make sure to check out her blog if you are in the market for a wedding or portrait photographer. She makes everyone feel so comfortable and at home, and she's a ton of fun to be around too.

Crazy about Shoes...

Anyone who know's me, knows the infatuation I have for beautiful shoes. I have always been obsessed with shoes, from the days as a child when I'd sneak into my grandmother's shoe closet (who by the way, had and still has amazing taste in shoes). I was all of 3 1/2 feet tall, prancing around - yes, i pranced - on my grandparents hard wood floors in 3.5" heels.

Amazingly, that obsession for shoes has never faded and although there were some questionable choices in footware over the years, I will always save my few extra dollars for a great new pair of heels. Preferably sparkly, or adorned with something floral.

As the event and wedding coordinator for the Bald Head Island Club, I spend part of my day perousing various websites and blogs of photographers who I've come to respect over the years, searching for inspiration and picking up on new trends. And inevitably, some of my favorite images turn out to be the shoe shots... I'm sure you've seen them:

I just can't get enough of them. ANYWAY... the only thing better than oogling at all the beautiful selections for wedding shoes is the idea that I could design my own pair of wedding shoes. Pulling together all of the very best in bling and fashion and chic attire I've seen over the years. Ok, I may need to tone it down some.

What's my point? I recently discovered Milk & Honey Shoes, a custom shoe design company, geared specifically for brides and bridesmaids and I just had to share. I mean how many gorgeous shoes have you seen while scouring the various wedding blogs and websites? And how many times did you say to yourself "I have to have those!" ?? One too many times I say. So why not design your very own pair for that oh so special of days?

You can go online now, pick from a wide variety of silhouettes, colors, heel heighth, embelishments, sizes, materials and more. And even if you're not getting married - it's a ton of fun

Wedding Day Keepsakes...

Most brides will tell you, your wedding day flies by in a flash. But there are a ton of ways to help keep it close to you over the months and years to follow. I suggest making a keepsake box with all the little details and trinkets to help remind you of your special day. Fill it with photographs, invite cards and escort cards. Favors, a dried bouquet or boutinneire, a copy of your vows and perhaps the notes you and your "soon-to-be" wrote to each other the morning of.

Trust me, years from now, when you're describing your wedding day to your daughter or future daughter in law, it will be nice to have a little treasure chest of memories to pull out and share.

I just saw this cute idea for a keepsake and thought I'd pass it on. It's a personalized hanger designed with your future "Mrs." name to hang and display your wedding gown from. How cute is this!?

How to choose a wedding photographer

When you're planning a wedding, you want everything to be perfect. The flowers, the cake, fhe food, the lighting, the DRESS! But in the end, it flies by much too quickly. Months after your wedding, you'll find yourself reliving the moments in your head, over and over. And what better way to do that then with the images captured by your tireless, inventive, creative, magical Photographer!

Choosing the right photographer to capture all those precious moments of your special day is a big decision. You should really take the time to research your options to make sure the photographer you choose really understands what you're looking for. I've spent years working with wedding photographers, so I thought I'd share some tips on how to select the right wedding photographer with you all:

1. Consistency: Any photographer who's been in business long enough will hopefully have 1 good day = 1 good album to show you. Ask to see others. Make sure they are consistently producing quality imagery. Don't just take their word for it.

2. Diversity: Your wedding day will contain a slew of challenges and opportunities for your photographer. Will it be inside or outside? Or both? Daytime or Night? Large bridal party or small? Will they need to bring a flash or can they rely on the natural, available light? Every wedding is different and therefore, your photographer should be prepared for every possible scenario. Make sure they're comfortable with that and make sure you've seen a few examples of their work in each of these scenarios.

3. Comfortability: Some of the world's greatest photographers are masters at making their client - you the bride and groom, feel comfortable having their pictures taken. This is not an easy feat to accomplish but the resulting images appear more real and true to your personalities. A really great photographer will take the time to get to know you, starting with your first introduction, and engagement shoot and right up to the big day. I have many photographer friends who end up becoming very good friends with their clients and continue their relationships even after the wedding. Think about it, would you rather have a good friend or a complete stranger taking your pictures on your wedding day??

4. Creativity: Of course you're going to want some of the old traditional family portrait style images on your wedding day as well as all the various combinations with you and your fiance, your bridal party and more. But you're also going to want to have your photographer get a little creative. Take a look through their sample albums and take notice of the images that stand out for you. First of all, were there any? Were there a ton? Is their creative range diverse and does their style match yours?

5. Style: Style is important and probably the easiest concept to identify when comparing various photographers. If their images appeal to you, if their contrasting use of light and dark in their images stands out, if you find it hard to turn away or can't wait to see the next image in an album - than you are in good company. Finding a good photographer is a lot like finding your favorite new pair of shoes. You want them to stand out with their brilliance but also fit like they were made specifically for you.

6. Timing: Every photographer is different. Some like to spend 5 minutes or so, setting up a shot. Some just want to photograph the moments as they occur. Some want 3-4 hours with a couple while others only need 20 minutes or so. Make sure they know what it is you want. The easiest thing to do is to give them a list of the various combinations you want them to include. Make sure you both understand what your expectations are and provide them with a schedule for the big day.

Lastly, when you have selected your photographer - make sure to give them a little flexibility and creative time. Those just may be the images that surprise you. And have FUN! Hope this helps someone!

There's an old African proverb that says:

"If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together."

I just got this image yesterday, from Kristopher Gerner, a photographer we had at the Bald Head Island Club a couple months ago who photographed Sean & Karen's wedding. I think these two are going places together.

It's Time for the Send Off!

Many of my brides are asking what to use for a wedding reception send off. Sparklers? Flower Petals? Rice? There are actually a ton of different things you can use. You just have to get a little creative!

This past weekend, our bride selected sea oats which I thought was very original. They filled small navy blue and white decorated paper cones with sea oats and passed them out to guests as they made their way to the bald head island club entrance. The paper cones were held in a couple weaved baskets designed by the brides grandfather.

I also wanted to share this idea, which I adore. This "Toss Table" idea was provided by The Knot.com online newsletter today and I think it's adorable! The toss table has several assorted bowls and cones with various "send off" items to choose from, including lavendar herbs, glitter, confetti and even some air-popped popcorn!

So have fun with your send off! Get Creative!

An Intimate Affair to Remember...

Sometimes bigger isn't better.

Houses - Usually. Diamonds - Always. Stacks of laundry - Never.

But when it comes to your wedding, it just all depends!

The Bald Head Island Club had the very special honor of hosting the wedding reception of Kristyna and Tom this past October for a very intimate wedding of just 16! They were married at the Village Chapel which itself is such a charming and quaint space - perfect for this group.

Kristyna and Tom arrived at the Bald Head Island Club and I was quite taken back by the calm, serene easiness that seemed to encapsulate the couple. She was pure grace and elegance and he was strikingly handsome, dressed to the nines.

We set them up in our Green Room for a wonderful dinner which included our infamous cashew crusted grouper, filet mignon with cremini mushrooms and port wine, Roasted Prime Rib Au Jus, Crabmeat Stuffed Flounder and a Grilled Vegetable plate with a balsamic glaze. But dinner would not begin until each of Kristyna and Tom's guests wished them a very happy life together. The champagne toasts were definitely a highlight for the evening.

Lynn Moser provided the centerpieces for the reception as well as Kristyna's beautiful bouqet. A stunning mixture of white florals really gave the room a classic elegance. I adore Lynn's work as I'm sure you can all see why!

The cake - in a word - phenomenal. When it arrived to the club, there were oogolers galore surrounding this sweetly divine creation. It was gorgeous. And as the reception was ending, the generous mother of the bride, Eva (who i absolutely fell in love with while working on this wedding) insisted I try it. Now first let me tell you, I've never really been a big fan of cake.But after one bite of this little piece of heaven and I was converted. It was absolutely mouth-watering. I snuck a small piece to one of the girls working the event who hadn't eaten sugar in 3 months. She tried to put up a fight, but once I convinced her just to try it, she was done for. I know, I'm evil but if you're gonna cheat, cheat good! The bakery who created this masterpiece was Miel Bon Bon out of Carrboro, NC so if you're in the area, definitely make this a must-try!

But all of this would just be a mere memory if it weren't for the talented photography of my dear friend Anne McGowan. Anne has her studio on the island so I run into her quite often. But I was so happy to hear she was going to be photographing Kristyna & Tom's wedding so we could spend some more time togehter. Anne is not only amazingly gifted as a photographer, but as a friend - she is completely warm, welcoming and easy going. The moment I met her I knew I would absolutely love her!

Congratulations to you Kristyna & Tom! I hope for only happy days in your future together!
